Hi, I'm Lauren and I run Sing and Sign classes in Southend, Leigh and surrounding areas.

Classes currently run 5 days a week in person (Hadleigh, Shoebury, Chalkwell, Leigh-on-Sea and Rayleigh) and every day online!

Do get in touch if you'd like to discuss private teaching groups (e.g. setting up a class with friends), having a Sing and Sign birthday party or if you have a suggestion for a venue to hold classes!

    My Story

I first discovered Sing & Sign when my daughter, Erin, was just a few months old. We went along to a Babes class and absolutely fell in love with it. Erin quickly responded to the signing we had learned (and continued to use at home) and at 5 months old could use the sign for 'milk', quickly followed by 'more' and 'eat', when we hit the weaning stage. Although 4 years old now, her speech has been incredible since such an early age and I always attribute this to Sing & Sign.

Her little brother, Rory, followed suit and soon learned the 'no' sign, having started classes at six weeks old. He's just about to start his final term of Stage 2 at nearly two years old and is able to communicate so well through the use of baby signing that we are yet to feel the wrath of any huge tantrums (so far!!) because he can confidently explain his needs and wants to us.

After 9 years as a primary school teacher, when the opportunity arose to combine my love of Sing & Sign with teaching, I couldn't resist!

Please do get in touch ( if you have any questions about Sing & Sign or check out class availability here.

A little bit about what to expect....

    Which Class Should I Attend?

We have 3 different stages of Sing and Sign which have been developed specifically for your baby's developmental stages.

Sing and Sign Babes classes are for 0 to 5 month olds with their parent/carer. This gentle class explores themes such as eye contact, gesture and anticipation together with lots of cuddles, tickles and some simple signs; all building the framework for good communication and brought to you using our magic ingredient - music!

Sing and Sign Stage 1 is ideal for babies from 6 months old up to around 14 months old and their parent / carer.  Themes include basic signs, nappies & bathtime, emotions & bedtime.  You'll learn over 100 signs related to your routines and the sort of things your baby may be interested in, such as animals and vehicles.

It is quite a big step from Stage 1 to Stage 2, so many people come to Stage 1 for at least two terms before attending Stage 2. However, this is also dependent on your baby's age.

Stage 2 is great when your little one is 14+ months, moving about and probably starting to talk (although every baby is different, so there's no hard and fast rule!) as it is more active and interactive.  Themes include weather, opposites, colours and the phonetic alphabet, together with simple counting songs, turn taking, sharing and of course, lots of fun!

How Long Do Classes Run For?

Babes classes run for about 30 - 40 minutes.

    Stage1 and Stage 2 classes run for about 40 - 45 minutes.

How Many People Attend Sing and Sign Classes?

Class sizes are limited to 12 babies (fewer at some venues) with their parent/carer. However, due to current Covid19 restrictions, classes are MUCH smaller to allow for social distancing.

I Have Twins / Triplets - How Many Places Do I Pay For?

Twins/Triplets are welcome and only pay for one place for twins or  one and half places for triplets. If you are a childminder and have two babies from different families, then a place for each child must be booked and paid for.

I Have an Older Child - Can They Come Too?

Currently we are only able to have one parent/carer with baby and no extra guests or family members, due to strict Covid19 rules.

    How Much Does It Cost?

Babes classes cost £80  for ten weeks and include the Jessie Cat songbook with 2 free CDs, plus a welcome bag (Jessie Cat tote bag, shaker and coloured scarf) on your first term.

Stage 1 classes cost £80 including a year's Gold membership to Sing and Sign online, Sing and Sign @home (10 weekly streamed classes) plus a welcome bag (Jessie Cat tote, shaker and coloured scarf) on your first term.

Sing and Sign @home is available for stages 1 and 2 for £50. This includes 10 weekly streamed classes, plus Gold membership for stage 1 and Premium membership for stage 2.

Sing and Sign has an excellent Nursery Affiliation Programme which will train staff on their own premises at a time to suit all. We will teach staff a selection of signs, tailor made to the nursery's individual requirements and design an Individual Action Plan to inspire staff and make signing fun and easy to incorporate. Following training, the nursery will receive a Certificate of Sing and Sign Affiliation together with ongoing access to our signing resources and a complimentary package of products.
