Sing and Sign baby signing classes in... Beaconsfield, High Wycombe, Princes Risborough, Thame

  • About Me

Welcome to Sing and Sign South Bucks & Thame

Welcome to the world of baby signing and early communication!

Are you looking for a baby class near Beaconsfield, High Wycombe (Downley), Farnham Common, Chinnor or Thame? Maybe you'd like a fun musical activity for you and your newborn, baby or toddler where you can both learn something new together? If so, we'd love to be able to share with you our passion for Sing and Sign!

Much more than just a baby or toddler music class, our courses enable you to enjoy conversations with your children much earlier than speech alone allows. The skills learned together will last a lifetime but be effective immediately, helping to reduce many frustrations while their speech is still developing. Each week our courses build on the last to provide the very best foundations for early and successful communication. Participants are supported by online content and weekly emails exploring each theme further and offering more insight into the development stages at play - we even have videos from our Speech and Language Therapist Consultant too. Even babies and pre-verbal children have much to tell us and signing together is one way to support their development and unlock a whole new level of connection and understanding between you. Ask us anything you still need to know and we hope to help you start your signing journey together soon!

Spaces are limited, so make sure you don't miss out - and if you have any questions at all, please drop us a message so we can help.

To book a full course, click on the 'book your class' button below and select the correct stage (see below for more guidance).
Alternatively, there are limited spaces remaining for trial sessions during our current Spring Term, as part of booking for Summer, so to view availability, click the book your class button and select Special Events/Tasters (no obligation until you are ready!).

If you'd love a class where you can learn too, make friendships and have fun with your little one with catchy songs, instruments and props, then we'd love to meet you! It's never too early - or late - to start signing with your little one and you'll be amazed how quickly they can pick it up and really start to communicate with you well before their speech develops.

Our courses have been designed with Speech and Language Therapists and are
age-specific, offering weekly themes and signs appropriate to their stage of development. We love catching up with everyone every week and sharing news and stories of signing (or even parenting!) successes!

To view the dynamic timetable online, click the 'book your class' button - which does not commit you to anything until you are ready -
and click on the correct stage for your baby, based on their age at the start of term (mid Sept 2024). Our stage 1 (6-14mths) courses often sell out, so don't delay to ensure your space, as spaces are limited.

    Don't forget too, that
you can always ask friends and family to gift you a Sing and Sign course, so please do contact us if you would like us to arrange this!

In addition to the live venue-based classes, we also have the popular Stage 1 and Stage 2 @Home courses available to book, which are ideal for anyone not able to make the live classes.

    All our courses are
age specific, with the stated ages relevant to the child's age at the start of term:

    Babes (ages 0-6 months)
    Stage 1 (6-16 months)
    Stage 2 (14+ months)

If the Spring term falls too early for you, please do register interest (with no obligation) for our Autumn 2024 courses (starting September), by visiting here. It will ensure you gain access to bookings immediately after our Summer Term customers.

Should you have any queries on what the different courses entail and which one would be best for your little one, please do check out our 'More Info' section, or drop us a line.

If you have any questions, are having difficulty finding a class that suits you, or booking the class you want, please do
get in touch so we can do our best to help.

    A Little More About Us:

Hi! We’re Jen & Zoë and we are excited to be running classes across the South Bucks & Thame areas, having taken over the local franchise in 2020.

As mummies to five little ones between us, we have both been on Sing and Sign journeys; in fact that’s how we met each other! We both took our eldest children to Sing and Sign from 4 months and loved being able to communicate with our little ones, as well as learning signs ourselves. Classes were great fun for all of us, not only from a social point of view but also because we enjoyed the music, learning signs and of course making new friends; we carried on for over two years! Then with the arrival of our youngest children, we’ve been signing (and singing) ever since!
We have both completed all three stages of the courses - including the @home programmes - with our own children, so have witnessed the benefits first hand. From early talkers thanks to intensive use of signs and their accompanying words, to prolific signers themselves - we have seen how Sing and Sign can benefit each individual child in different ways and so are passionate about sharing our knowledge!

We would love you to get in touch if you're interested to attend any of the options we now have available - or if anything is missing! Similarly, let us know if you’d just like more details around what to expect with Sing and Sign.

If you have any questions please let get in touch; we'd love to hear from you.

Which stage is right for my baby?

We have 3 different "stages" of Sing and Sign which have been developed specifically for your baby's developmental stages.

    Sing and Sign Babes
is a gentle early signing course for babies aged from birth to 6 months at the start of term and has a strong emphasis on parent/child communication and bonding. Each week focuses on a different theme, with each topic being considered a key building block of successful and early communication. With the help of our Consultant Speech and Language Therapist, we delve into topics such as eye contact, repetition and anticipation - what they mean and just why they are so beneficial to your baby. We put each theme into practice to show how easy it is to continue it at home, whilst also having fun with music and - of course - teaching you the first signs to use with your baby! Sing and Sign Stage 1 is great fun and an ideal way to learn baby signing and enjoy musical activities with your child. We cover new and useful topics every week, including going out, bath time, bedtime and emotions, incorporating a range of familiar, as well as specially written songs to make learning fun - and easy! Each term has varied lesson plans, so there are always new signs and songs to learn and enjoy. We learn over 100 signs during the 10-week course, so we recommend most babies attend at least two terms of Stage 1 to really help them embed them all. Repetition is the best form or learning! Our Stage 1 course is suitable for babies aged 6-16 months at the start of term and no previous signing experience is necessary. Sing and Sign Stage 2 is a baby signing course for mobile babies and toddlers aged from 14 months upwards at the start of term, as it is even more active and interactive. Your toddler may well already be starting to talk but signing still has great benefits at this age and is also an introduction to a life-long skill.

We cover new and useful topics every week, including food choices, colours and speech sounds, whilst also learning simple counting songs and skills such as turn-taking and sharing! We incorporate a range of familiar, as well as specially written songs to make learning fun - and easy!

Each term has varied lesson plans, so there are always new signs and songs to learn and enjoy. With so many to cover, we recommend most toddlers attend at least two terms of Stage 2 to really help them embed them all. Repetition is the best form or learning and once again,
no previous signing experience is necessary.

If you have any questions please let get in touch; we'd love to hear from you jen_zoe@singandsign.co.uk.

  • Venues

Venues in South Buckinghamshire and Thame

Mondays: Red Kite Family Centre, Thame, OX9 2DY

One of our new venues for 2023 is the Red Kite Family Centre, located in the centre of Thame.

There is no parking available directly attached to the venue but there are free parking options nearby. The best options are to use the several free local car parks, as on street parking is limited and may not be any nearer!

Just a short stroll away is the Sainsbury's car park, which is free to park in for up to two hours and the entry/exit for this is on the same road as the Red Kite Family Centre.

Alternatively, take advantage of the car parks and street parking options along the main High Street, which generally allow free parking for 2 or 3 hours, depending on exact location. Again, it is a short stroll down either Nelson Street or Rooks Lane to reach the centre.

The Red Kite Family Centre is located on the corner of Rooks Lane and Southern Road (entrance faces Rooks Lane) and is very visible/signposted. The centre is accessed via either a slope and steps, or a lift, so it is easy if you are bringing a buggy. There is a sheltered buggy parking area outside and the centre often also allows buggies to be parked in the garden area, with access through the side door.

Mondays: 1st Holtspur Scout Hall, Beaconsfield, HP9 1BH

The Scout Hall occupies the first floor above Holtspur Pre-School, with the entrances next door to each other (Scout Hall entrance is the double doors visible in photo on the right hand side).

If using sat nav to find the venue, we recommend you request directions to Holtspur School (or approx 3, Cherry Tree Road), as the Pre-School/Scout Hall building is just next door. There is also a board outside to highlight the Scout Hall's location when you get there.

There is plenty of free street parking available outside the venue. Please do not use the small car park as it is for use by the Pre-School only.

Please avoid bringing prams if possible, as they cannot be brought upstairs and may need to be left outside to avoid any fire exits being blocked. There is plenty of space upstairs for car seats and belongings though.

Tuesdays: St James Church Hall, Downley, HP13 5NB

The venue offers a free car park with plenty of spaces and is well signposted from the main road (Plomer Hill).

The hall itself is located behind the main church, down the path to the left hand side of the main building. It's not immediately visible from the car park but one of our cars will always be parked down the pathway, so follow it to find us!

There is plenty of space for car seats and belongings but only limited space for buggies in the hallway, though they can be left outside if needed.

Thursdays: Chinnor Methodist Church, OX39 4PZ

The Church itself is set back from the road but visibly signposted.

There is no onsite parking but free parking is available on surrounding roads (please park considerately if busy), or at the nearby Unity Health or Community Pavilion Centres.

Additionally, we have permission for you to park at The Crown Pub if there are spaces, making it a short walk to the church itself (and great for a treat after!)

Classes are held in the main church, accessed via the double doors as you arrive. There is plenty of space for belongings and car seats and buggies can generally be left in the entrance area as needed.

Thursdays: Farnham Common Village Hall, SL2 3NL

Farnham Common Village Hall is our newest venue in 2023, launching in September. It is located on Victoria Street, Farnham Common, SL2 3NL, just a short walk from the main road and shops. There is limited off-street parking available onsite, plus free street parking too.

Classes are held in the small hall and we can accommodate car seats, no problem but may not have space for multiple buggies.

We look forward to welcoming you!
