  Hello, my name is Lois and I discovered the joys and huge benefits of Sing and Sign, initially with my eldest son, now four years old, and currently with my second son, who is now two. Learning to sign with my babies has been an incredible experience. For them both to have been able to communicate with me before they could talk has been amazing and so useful -  being able to say when they want ‘more’ (usually) food, when they spotted a ‘duck’ or ‘dog’ (always an exciting event), when the roundabout was too ‘fast’ so I could slow it down, when my cup of tea was ‘hot’ – letting me know they know not to go near it, and SO MUCH more!

  My eldest's signing vocabulary quickly grew and grew, and his speech soon followed, he is now a very confident speaker. My youngest still uses signs alongside his emerging words to express himself, which is helpful in this early stage of speech development when words can sometimes be a little tricky to make out clearly. I often catch him having some “quiet time” reading a book to himself IN SIGNS and it just melts my heart! I really believe that being able to communicate through signing eases much of the frustration that many babies and toddlers experience when they cannot make themselves understood.

  What do the classes include?

  Sing and Sign Babes is a gentle music and sensory class with a strong emphasis on communication. Our classes are open to babies from birth or as soon as you feel you would like to get out with your baby and enjoy some music together.  This lovely class explores themes such as eye contact, gesture and anticipation together with lots of cuddles, tickles and some simple signs.  All building the framework for good communication and brought to you using our magic ingredient - music!

  Sing and Sign Stage 1 is ideal for babies from 6 months old up to around 14 months old and their parent/carer. I will take enquiries from parents of babies up to 18 months for Stage 1. Themes include basic signs, nappies & bath time, emotions & bedtime.  You'll learn over 100 signs related to your routines and also the sort of things your baby may be interested in, such as animals and vehicles.

  Sing and Sign Stage 2 is great when your little one is 14+ months to about 2.5 years old, perhaps moving about and possibly starting to talk.  Themes include weather, opposites, colours, potty training and the phonetic alphabet, together with simple counting songs, and of course, lots of fun! This course is a brilliant preparation for starting pre-school. Courses coming in 2024.

  We also offer an award-winning online programme which follows the Stage 1 and 2 curriculum and can be enjoyed independently of live classes, this may suit families who are working or cannot attend live classes on the days they are held. For Stage 1 and 2 families attending live classes, this content is included in your membership meaning you can continue the fun at home and other members of the family can share in your baby signing experience. The @home content is really useful if you happen to miss a class one week due to illness or holidays as it offers a way for you to not miss out.

  Cost

  The 10 week @HOME Stage 1 and 2 courses cost £50 per family and includes an annual subscription to the Jessie Cat club- a years access to our fantastic supporting resources.

  The 10 week face to face stage 1 and 2 courses cost £90. This includes access to GOLD membership of the Jessie Cat club (worth £25) plus the @home content (worth £50, as above).

  Our Babes classes run in 5 week courses and cost £40. 

  With Babes courses, there is the option to purchase the Jessie Cat song book with  CD and access to online content for £13.99. This is optional. 

  There is no extra charge for multiple birth families across any of our classes.

  Special "Introduction to baby signing" events run several times per year, check booking site for available dates.
