Hello I'm Alice and I am delighted to be teaching Sing and Sign classes in Walton, Hersham, Weybridge and Cobham Stoke D'Abernon!

I have two children and attended several terms of Sing and Sign with each of them when they were little. As a parent, I cannot recommend Sing and Sign enough; being able to communicate with your baby before speech is a wonderful thing because it really does reduce frustration when they can let you know they are hungry, tired, in pain and so many other things.

I first came across Sing and Sign when my son, Robin, was around 7 months old. In the classes as a baby, Robin loved the singing, musical instruments and watching other children. As he got older I was impressed with the way it helped reinforce many of the keywords he was learning, both to say and to sign, and it was wonderful watching his confidence grow until he was joining in the singing along with all the adults.

Whilst the classes do include familiar nursery rhymes, I think it is brilliant the way there are other special (and simple) Sing and Sign songs to reinforce concepts that are familiar and regular for babies and toddlers -nappy changes, bath time, getting dressed etc. It was by far my favourite (and the most useful) class I attended with both Robin and his little sister, Hazel, when she came along. And it was simply gorgeous watching Robin take pride in communicating with his sister before she could talk through remembering many of the signs he had once used.

Even though both of my children are now extremely talkative at 10 and 7, they remain incredibly fond of the songs they learnt at Sing and Sign (as well as Jessie Cat!) and I am convinced that Sing and Sign helped greatly in their language development - particularly their confidence to communicate with everyone.

Attending classes with my own little ones made me want to become a part of the Sing and Sign family and share such a fun and useful experience with other parents, carers and babies. I'd love you and your little ones to join my classes and share your Sing and Sign journey with me.

Classes are currently in Walton, Hersham, Weybridge and Cobham Stoke D'Abernon. If you have any questions please let me know – I’d love to hear from you.

Sing and Sign classes in Walton, Hersham, Weybridge and Cobham Stoke D'Abernon

Summer term 2024 courses will begin in April and are open for booking now!

Sing and Sign classes follow a 10-week curriculum for Stage One and Stage Two (with a break of one week for half term) and 5-week terms for Babes, and cover all the basic signs you need in your day to day life with your baby. The signs are taught through songs, rhymes and music, but also toys, props and pictures are used to inspire your baby's interest and illustrate the signs.

Classes are relaxed and meant to be good fun for everyone. The classes are kept small so that both you and your baby can feel safe and enjoy the social aspect. Each session follows the same format and structure, and babies enjoy the routine and soon become familiar with the different parts of the session.

But I don't sing very well....?
Don't worry! Your baby loves your voice no matter what you think of it, and as long as you relax and try to have some fun with learning the signs through singing, you'll be fine.

    Age groups

Sing and Sign 'stages' have been developed specifically for your baby's developmental stages.

Sing and Sign Babes classes are for 0 to 6 month olds with their parent/carer. This gentle class explores themes such as eye contact, gesture and anticipation together with lots of cuddles, tickles and some simple signs. All building the framework for good communication and brought to you using our magic ingredient - music!

Stage One classes are suitable for babies aged 5 or 6 months to around 14 months with their parent/carer. Themes include basic signs, nappy changing & bath time, emotions and bedtime. You will learn over 100 useful signs relating to your daily routines with your baby, as well as the sort of things your baby may be interested in, such as animals and vehicles.

Stage Two classes are aimed at little ones who are 14 - around 24 months, moving about and probably starting to babble (although every baby is different so there is no hard and fast rule!) as it is more active and interactive. Themes include the weather, opposites, colours and the phonetic alphabet, together with some simple counting songs, turn taking and, of course, lots of fun!

Some people don't hear about Sing and Sign until their little ones are 14+ months old and then wonder if it is too late to start. Not at all! It may be more appropriate to come straight to a Stage 2 class, but if you email me we can have a chat about your individual circumstances.

  • Nurseries

We have a wonderful Nursery Affiliation Programme...

The Nest Day Nursery, Hersham, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey

If your baby attends a nursery setting whom you think may be interested in having a chat with me about becoming affiliated to Sing and Sign, please do let me know and I will contact them; they benefit from being able to use their very own portion of our website and sing our copywrite songs in their setting too for a whole year of membership!

Aside from that, it is great kudos to display the Sing and Sign certificate in their building for all to see.
