Sing and Sign baby signing classes in... Northwich, Knutsford & Winsford
Welcome to Sing and Sign Northwich and Surrounding areas
Sing and Sign Summer Term classes will be Online!
Hello I am Janice and I run the recognised baby sign classes Sing and Sign in the Northwich, Knutsford, Winsford and surrounding areas. I am a mum of two, Thomas who is 3 and Lily-May who is 1. Throughout my working life I have been in teaching, with a passion for music a constant theme throughout. I have been using Makaton and Sign Along for 7 years now in my previous job as a special needs music teacher so can bear witness to the incredible impact signing can have on children of any age.
I heard so much about Sing and Sign from my sister who took both my nieces to baby sign classes in their area – we learnt a lot from them in our own home and soon knew all the songs and witnessed first hand the way the signs would help them communicate before speech. So it was a shame that when Thomas was a baby there were no local sing and sign classes, but having seen how priceless it had been for others I leant on my knowledge of signing over my professional career to make sure this was something Thomas and I could experience together.
Now it is worth mentioning at this point that from Day 1 Thomas has had a developmental delay so I cannot stress enough just how special and invaluable the use of signing has been and still is for us both. Thomas was able to know and understand the signs from an early age and it has helped his speech develop alongside it and limit toddler frustration. The thrill of sharing a mutual understanding of a sign is so special! Lily-May now attends classes with me and she can't get enough of it :)
I am that passionate about Sing and Sign and with the absence of any classes in this area before 2019, decided to leave my career in education to run the sessions and ensure you and your child can have the opportunity to develop this wonderful communicative tool. Naturally there is an educational element to the baby sign classes, but they are also relaxed, fun, and in a safe environment where you and your little ones can embark on this journey together whilst enjoying the music and meeting new friends!
Please go to the Venues and More info pages (tabs at the top of this page) to find out exact locations / dates / prices etc.
We have lots of fun in class and we look forward to introducing you and your baby to the amazing world of baby signing.

Our baby sign classes
About our classes:
Classes are fun, friendly, relaxed and are small (max 11 per class) so you and your baby can enjoy an intimate environment and the social aspect of the class. Our baby signing classes are a great opportunity to meet new mums in your area that have similar aged babies.
Our award winning Stage 1 classes are great for babies aged from approximately 6 months to around 17 months (exceptions apply, please contact me if you are unsure!). Themes include basic signs, nappies and bath time, emotions and bedtime. You'll learn over 100 signs related to your routines and also the sort of things your baby may be interested in, such as animals and vehicles
If your baby is younger than 14 months and have already completed one term of Stage 1 of Sing and Sign then we strongly recommend coming back for a second term. This enables you to see the impact the course is having at home, as your baby will be developmentally ready to respond more and more as it becomes more familiar! In terms of the learning process, think of the first term for you and the second term for your baby!
Stage 2 is great when your little one is 14+ months, moving about and is probably starting to talk (although every baby is different, so there's no hard and fast rule!) as it is more active and interactive. Themes include weather, opposites, colours and the phonetic alphabet, together with simple counting songs, turn taking, sharing and of course, lots of fun!
Some people don't hear about Sing and Sign until their little one is 14+ months old and then wonder if it is too late to start. Not at all! It may be more appropriate to come straight to a Stage 2 class, but if you ring/email me, we can have a chat about your individual circumstances.
How long is each class?
Classes last an 1 hour with singing and signing of 45 minutes and up to 15 minutes for questions for parents to meet over a free tea or coffee (venue facilities permitting), while the toys come out for the children.
During the class
Our unique approach combines easy-to- learn nursery rhymes and action songs with puppets, props, pictures and instruments in musical activities designed to encourage natural, fun communication between you and your baby. The signs are repeated from week to week in a variety of ways so don’t worry if you forget some, they’ll come up again!
We know babies don't like to stay still so we don't expect them to! They are welcome to roam around the room if they want to - they will still be learning (you'd be surprised how much they can still learn whilst wandering!) It’s the grown ups that will be able to pass on exciting new signs to your babies. When Jessie Cat, instruments or the props bag appear they soon come back!
What is the cost?
Cost for a term in 2020 is £65.00 for Stage 1 & Stage 2 classes. This includes a year’s exclusive GOLD membership to Sing and Sign online - ‘The Jessie Cat Club’ which gives you access to unique resources of all the songs and signs of our weekly themes in class, videos, games and more.
The Online Membership Service is a wonderful way to complement the course (and get the other family members involved too). It is a brilliant way to keep your family signing once you are no longer able to attend classes. In our experience, the families who get the most out of our programme are the families who both attend classes AND use the Online membership service, as one method of reinforces the other for both you and your baby. It is money well spent!
We don’t want your baby to miss out and are working hard to build a ‘Sing and Sign at Home’ streamed class resource so you can book your place on our Summer term confident of a full course of ‘baby signing the fun way’ whatever the developments! We are keen to ensure that your baby will not be in any way disadvantaged or deprived of their fun and their learning. Just in case you need to miss class for a few weeks what will the online content involve? 30 mins each themed week, which you can enjoy with your baby as a ‘home class’ and will remain available all week to dip into again if you fancy. Online lessons will be delivered by a variety of sunny smiling teachers, with all the anticipation of our blue board songs, props surprises from the bag and Jessie Cat will also of course play her games in her inimitable style! Unique fun content only available to Summer term families. While this is not the same as the actual class experience we are proud to be carrying on regardless bringing smiles, music and learning to Sing and Sign babies.Classes run through the term time only
Due to limited numbers per class you will need to book and pay prior to term starting. (Early booking is advisable).
Taster Classes & Money Back offer
The first class is treated as a"trial" for everyone. If you have booked a place on one of our courses and decide you no longer wish to continue (before the beginning of the second class), you may cancel your booking and your full term fee will be returned.
To qualify for this offer your booking must be cancelled, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
BEFORE the second class of the term
If you have signed up to a Stage 1 for the first time, you will automatically receive access to the Gold membership Sing and Sign Online - The Jessie Cat Club. If you choose to not continue for the rest of the term and you request your money back by the second class, any membership to the Online Jessie Cat Club Online Membership can not be refunded. This is something that you will then be able to use for 1 year and is still a helpful resource regardless of class attendance.
How much would I pay for twins/ triplets?
Sing and Sign book per family so no extra charge for multiple babies.
Can I bring an older sibling?
We will always make every effort to accept older siblings into classes. If you intend to bring an older sibling to our class, please inform us before completing the booking.
In very rare circumstances we may have to decline this offer or limit numbers and this will only be because of health and safety concerns where space is limited. (In the case of numbers being limited, sibling places will be accepted on a first come first served basis). Please note that your children remain your responsibility at all times and parents/carers must be alert to their children's behaviour and safety, especially in terms of the younger babies.
