  There are three different stages to your baby signing course.  PLEASE NOTE - you don't need to have done Stage 1 to do Stage 2, or Babes to do Stage 1.  Obviously it is hugely beneficial for you to do them all but we have taught numerous toddlers starting at just Stage 2 and they still gained a huge amount from the course.  Here's the age details for each stage:

  Babes: 0 - 6 months

  Stage 1: 6 - 14 months

  Stage 2: 14 months to 36 months

  What to expect?

  Sing and Sign is a programme of songs and rhymes teaching simple gestures (derived from sign language) which you can use to enhance communication with your baby. It’s a method known widely as baby signing. Babies typically go through a very gesture heavy stage between 9-18 months. Sing and Sign will show you some extra and more specific gestures to make this natural form of communication even more rewarding and beneficial for you and your child. Baby signing is so easy. You only need to learn a few signs to make a significant difference in your baby’s ability to communicate. You can lessen frustration, enrich language learning and have a lot of fun with it too. Sing and Sign shows you how!

  What will happen at class?

  Each class includes a singing and signing session and ample social time while your baby plays and makes friends. Your teacher will use many signs in action songs and rhymes using pictures, puppets and props to inspire your baby's attention and illustrate the signs. The course will cover over 100 signs relating to your baby's world but you are not expected to instantly remember all the signs shown, or to use them straightaway with your baby! You will receive plenty of advice from your teacher in class, but the number of signs you choose to use at home is up to you. Each week we highlight a group of themed signs which your teacher will recommend using at home. The course is designed to comfortably and gradually increase your signing vocabulary so your baby can learn naturally by your example and begin using some signs when he or she is ready. We sing about mealtime, bedtime, bath time and other things that often interest little children, like animals, vehicles and the park! Although there is a strong educational element to the class, your baby is not expected to sit still and concentrate. He or she can crawl and toddle freely, enjoying the musical and social aspects of class while you learn the signs.

  
  

  Why do we teach the signs through music?

  This is proven to be a great way to learn! Our action songs are a relaxed and easy way for you to become familiar with a wide range of signs without the need to study sign language illustrations. Everyone knows that nursery rhymes and action songs are great fun but musical activities can also help stimulate your baby's language development, memory and attention skills. Babies love routine which is why each class follows a winning format that your baby will quickly become familiar with. It’s so lovely to see them clapping and giggling with delight as they anticipate what is coming next. Could it be Jessie Cat playing peek-a-boo from her brightly coloured box; or time to play with instruments (which they all learn to put back “in” the basket); or their turn to pull a toy from the magic bag…...Sing and Sign is great fun and we are sure you will agree!
