I started Sing and Sign classes with my son when he was around 8 months old. I used Makaton signs regularly in my work at a Special School but wasn’t sure where to start with my baby.  The classes taught me how to introduce relevant signs gradually and I also picked up some new ones.  I found it great fun and I was amazed at just how much he could understand at such a young age.  Once he started signing he picked up more and more signs and would sign at home and at his nursery. It eased his frustration being able to sign for what he wanted rather than crying, for example when he wanted a drink or a particular toy, he could sign for it before he could say it.  It gave him confidence in communication and helped him to develop his vocabulary at an early age.

I returned to Sing and Sign with my baby daughter and the opportunity to take on the Franchise arose -  which I jumped at!  My daughter also loved Sing and Sign and soon she was speaking (and singing!) in sentences, amazing us with her vocabulary.  Signing strengthened the bond between brother and sister as my son sang and signed to her and soon they were having little signing conversations!  My son loved to invent new signs for her– mostly of different types of dinosaurs!

I’ve loved bringing Sing and Sign to new families and watching the little ones enjoying the classes and developing their own signing abilities – it’s so rewarding!

Hope to meet you and your little one(s) soon!

Leese
