Hello, my name is Beccy Ford and I am the Sing and Sign teacher for the Winchester and Basingstoke and Andover area. I started Sing and Sign classes with my eldest daughter when she was 12 months old. Within 3 weeks she was telling me through sign when she wanted to eat, have a drink or have her milk and even told me when she wanted to sleep! She was rarely frustrated as she knew I understood what she needed.
Once she started signing her spoken volcabulary increased rapidly. When she was just 2 she spoke fluently and was and still is extremely expressive in her communication. I believe the reason India's speech was so advanced for her age was mainly down to signing. We are both so passionate about singing and signing that I chose to become a teacher.
Please click on the green link below to see twin girls signing. The girls were taught by my sing and sign colleague in Thanet. They are absolutely adorable and are shinning examples of how baby signing really does help communication prior to speech. Link to twin girls signing
I know how difficult it is to find child care so you are more than welcome to bring older siblings along to the class (provided they are of course well behaved) at no extra cost.

STAGE 2 CLASSES are for those who have usually completed 2 terms of Stage 1 or for tots who are just starting aged 15 months and above. Signs applicable to a toddlers world are learnt such as potty training, the alphabet, colours and the weather.
There will be no Sing and Sign classes in the Andover for the foreseeable future. .
Classes are very relaxed and good fun. We keep class sizes small (about 12 per class) so you and your baby can enjoy the social aspect of the class.
Classes run for about 50 - 55 minutes and we Sing and Sign for approximately 35 minutes which is plenty for the tots before opening the big toy box and having a good chat.
We know that babies don't like to stay still so we don't expect them to!. They are welcome to roam around the room if they want to - they will still be learning (you'd be surprised how much they can pick up whilst wandering!) When Jessie Cat, instruments or the props bag appears they soon come back.
We learn the signs through singing. Don't worry if you can't sing you don't have to.
