A bit about me..... I have a level 3 qualification in Childcare and Education and 15 years experience working with children. I have used sign language and Makaton in my career, but my most relevant signing experience has been gained signing with my own children Archie, Joe and Maggie, all of which I have signed with as babies.

We started when Archie was around 6 months old (he’s 8yrs now!) and it became a wonderful and valuable part of our family life. Attending classes became a highlight in our week with all three children and they still talk about it now!

I have always loved working with children, it's been a true passion and it brings me so much joy to watch them grow and learn.

Signing is a wonderful tool for all the family and it is so very easy and so much fun. Nothing beats watching your pre-verbal infant child clearly communicating with you using their hands!

In addition to the strong educational element to Sing and Sign there is also a huge amount of fun involved for both parents and babies which makes it a great thing to be involved in. There is a lot of laughter in our classes! Sing and Sign attracts nice people, and you will see the same families in class each week.

I really hope that you and your little one will be able to join us to discover the truly unique magic and benefits of Sing and Sign for yourselves.

I can't wait to make music and fun together!

    Nic Xx

If you would like more information emailing me directly or via the 'make an enquiry' button rather than phoning is usually to best way to get in touch.  As I'm often teaching during the day and looking after my own children in the evenings / at weekends, it may take me a few hours to get back to any enquiry whether phone or email. Therefore, if you want to know which classes have spaces, why not follow the link at the top of this page to the online booking system to see for yourself. Also, by clicking on the tabs at the top of this page you can answer most questions about venues / costs etc. If your question remains unanswered, please feel free to get in touch and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks very much!

    About our classes

When and Where can I find classes in Chester and Wirral?

You can find out general information about our venues and class times by clicking on the 'Venues' tab above or on the 'Book Now' button to the right of this page. Due to limited places and high demand you will need to book on and pay for your course IN ADVANCE (this is protected by a satisfaction guarantee). To find out specific information about place availability, book on or go on the waiting list, go to our online booking system by clicking on the pink 'Book Now' button on the right of this page.

    What does it cost?

Stage One and Stage Two classes cost £75.00 for the ten week term.  This includes your initial 12 months GOLD access to our Online Membership Service - 'The Jessie Cat Club' and @home membership (premium access for stage two).  This includes:

    • Access to our teaching video 'Time to Sing and Sign'. This multi-award winning children's classic is the gold standard method to learn baby signing the fun way!
    • New! Two additional video guides that take you through each week of the Stage One Programme - great for catching up if you have had to miss a week or for involving other family members.
    • View over 200 baby useful signs in our signing dictionary, demonstrated in short video clips.
    • Create your baby's own bespoke signing resource by selecting and printing out sheets of their favourite signs to share with nursery/grandparents etc.
    • Play 'peekaboo' games with Sing and Sign's favourite friend Jessie Cat, who teaches signs through her simple interactive hiding games.
    • Your membership is valid for a whole year and you can access the streamed material and print out the signs as often as you like on the full range of tablets/phones/computers etc both on Android and Apple.
    • Within the site you can upgrade your membership to PREMIUM to access more Sing and Sign material, including our much loved follow on video content and play Jessie Cat's next level interactive hiding game with seventeen animal friends!

The Online Membership Service is a wonderful way to complement the course (and get other family members involved too). It is also a brilliant way to keep your whole family signing once you are no longer able to attend classes.  In our experience, the families who get the most out of our programme are the families who both attend classes AND use the Online Membership Service, as one method reinforces the other for both you and your baby. So it is money very well spent.

The term fee includes your ten week course PLUS access to the Online Membership Service PLUS access to the online version of our course 'Class@home'

The Babes class for babies from birth ( i.e. whenever you are ready to get out of the house!) to six months old also costs £75.00 for the ten week course and this includes our accompanying Songbook and CD that compliment the course and act as a fantastic memory aid. It also includes access to online material and a further digital CD that you can use to have a Sing and Sign session at home with your baby.

You can book with confidence as we operate a money back guarantee so if you book on and are not completely delighted with the first class of term you will receive a full refund of all money paid (minus a £5 admin fee). You can pay by bank transfer. Once you have paid your place is secured for the term and you get priority on bookings for each subsequent term until you have completed the full course.

Which class is best for us?

Sing and Sign Babes classes are for 0 to 6 month olds (or a bit older if they're not crawling).  This lovely multi-sensory class explores themes such as eye contact, gesture, repetition, praise and anticipation together with lots of cuddles, tickles and some simple signs.  All building the exceptionally important framework for good communication and brought to you using our magic ingredient - music! This format has been specifically designed for younger babies who are pre-Stage 1. It is only suitable for babies who are not yet crawling (rolling over or sitting up is fine).

Sing and Sign Stage 1 is ideal for babies from 6 months old up to around 14 months old and their parent / carer.  Themes include basic signs, nappies & bathtime, emotions & bedtime.  You'll learn over 100 signs related to your routines and also the sort of things your baby may be interested in, such as animals and vehicles.

It is quite a big step from Stage 1 to Stage 2, so most people come to Stage 1 for two terms before attending Stage 2.  However, this is also dependent on your baby's age.

Stage 2 is great when your little one is 14+ months, moving about and probably starting to talk (although every baby is different, so there's no hard and fast rule!) as it is more active and interactive.  Themes include weather, opposites, colours and the phonetic alphabet, together with simple counting songs, turn taking, sharing and of course, lots of fun!

Some people don't hear about Sing and Sign until their little ones are 14+ months old and then wonder if it too late to start.  Not at all!  It may be more appropriate to come straight to a Stage 2 class, but if you ring / e-mail me we can have a chat about your individual circumstances.

For stages one and two we know that some babies and toddlers don't like to stay still for long so we don't expect them to! The are welcome to roam around the room if they want to as long as they are happy and safe - they will still be learning (you'd be surprised how much they can pick up whilst wandering!) When Jessie Cat, the instruments or the props bag appear they soon come back!

    How do I enrol?

To get your baby on the class list for this term or register your interest for next term please click on the pink 'Book now' on the right of this webpage. I would highly recommend getting your baby's name down as places fill very quickly indeed, sometimes within a matter of hours of opening bookings. Places are initially offered to existing customers who wish to rebook, and then offered to those on the waiting list. If your name is on the waiting list I will contact you at the end of the current term to give you the opportunity to secure your place by paying the full amount (backed by a satisfaction guarantee). Please note that your place is not secured until you have paid for it and you will be sent an invitation to join the class along with your payment options once the class is open. You will then have seven days to secure your place with a payment, and classes are then filled on a first come first served basis.

Parents have consistently voted our classes as their favourite, and we are very proud to have won awards for 'Best Toddler Development Activity', 'Best Activity for Under 2s' and 'Best Baby Signing Class'!!!!! As a result our classes fill up quickly. If you are interested in joining us please get in touch as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as class numbers are strictly limited to preserve the quality of the class and once booking is opened places are allocated on a first come first served basis. The emphasis on our classes is on fun and enjoyment in a relaxed and lively atmosphere. There is no pressure on your baby to sit still if they want to move around, as babies get a tremendous amount out of the classes from wherever they are in the room. The main thing is for you to relax, enjoy the class and learn some useful signs which will motivate your baby to sign back and encourage speech development.

Sing and Sign operates a Buy One Get One Free policy for twins!

Come and join us! You will receive a warm welcome, an inspiring class and an opportunity to meet like minded parents. But don't just take my word for it, check out our reviews from other parents on Netmums by clicking on the link below, or join our facebook page! For any queries at all please do contact me by email via the enquiry form or by phone (number on the right of this page, though email is usually quicker!). I look forward to meeting you and your little one!

    Sing and Sign in Childcare

Does your child attend a nursery?

Sing and Sign has an excellent Nursery Affiliation Programme which will train staff on their own premises at a time to suit all. We will teach staff a selection of signs, tailor made to the nursery's individual requirements and design an Individual Action Plan to inspire staff and make signing fun and easy to incorporate. Following training, the nursery will receive a Certificate of Sing and Sign Affiliation together with ongoing access to our signing resources and a complimenatary package of products.

If your baby attends nursery or you know of a childcare facility that would be interested in receiving further information, please do pass our details on, or contact us at the number/email above.
